Life is so busy, and it can sometimes be hard to ensure your dog receives enough exercise and enrichment during the day.
Enrichment is a great way to reduce your dogs stress and reinforce socialization practices. It doesn’t take much time; your dog only needs about 20 mins of enrichment a day, five days a week. One activity a day is all they need!
Below is a list of some of our favorite enrichment activities.
Food Puzzles: We LOVE food puzzles! They are an excellent activity for your dog to use their problem-solving skills. You can purchase food puzzles from the store, but you can also DIY them yourself. Here’s an article from the ASPCA: aspca.org/pet-care/dog-care/canine-diy-enrichment
Agility Courses: Get your dog active and have them learn something new while they do it. Chris and I recently taught our dogs to jump through a hula hoop. Some other fun ideas would be teaching them to stand up on a box, run through a tunnel, and weave through some cones; imagination is your best friend with this one!
Scent Games: Take a treat and let your dog sniff it. Take it and hide it in the next room and tell your dog to FIND IT. Be sure to hide the treat in easy to find places at first. Once they get the hang of it, they will go crazy when they get to play this game!
New Place and New Friends: Take your dog to a new park to walk around and sniff everything or introduce them to a new fur friends in the neighborhood.
Enriching your dog’s life is easy and doesn’t have to cost a lot! Of course, if you need assistance, contact us and we will be happy to help you out!
